Panacea Basics
Panacea consists of 4 separate applications: Panacea, Webworker, MySQL and Hyperspace:
Panacea
This is the main application and consists of the user interface - the bit that
YOU, the user, work with. You can install Panacea on multiple computers on
a network, enabling many users to have simultaneous access to Panacea's database
and functionality.
Webworker
Webworker takes care of certain "background" tasks and provides Panacea with
it's internet functionality including the following:
- Sending eClaims and processing their responses
- Verification of medical aid membership details
- Delivery of emails and SMS's
- Checking for and downloading of Panacea updates
- Automated licence key updates
MySQL
MySQL is the "database engine" used by Panacea. SQL
(Structured Query Language) is the technology of
choice for modern software applications due to it's speed, reliability and
power. We chose MySQL due to it's cost effectiveness (open source) and
it's rock solid reputation. Datamax's eClaims switch has depended on MySQL
for many years and we have never experienced a single glitch.
For more information on MySQL visit their website at

.
Hyperspace
Hyperspace is a technology introduced in Panacea version 7.2 that makes it very easy to connect terminals, even if they are not on your LAN. i.e. you can connect from anywhere on the internet. Hyperspace connections are also better when using wifi. For more info on Hyperspace click

What goes where?
If you will be using Panacea on a single machine then you will need to install all four applications (Panacea, Webworker, MySQL and Hyperspace) on that machine.
If
you will be using Panacea on a network, then Panacea, Webworker, MySQL and Hyperspace should all be installed on the server. You will install Panacea (only) on each terminal. It is a good idea for your MySQL machine to have a UPS
to ensure that a power failure does not corrupt your database. Note that Webworker
requires internet access.
